Below is a list of the common slugging terms. Some merely describe a slug line or destination, while others describe someone’s role within a slug line. 14th Street and Independence-Washington— slug line or destination near the intersection of 14th Street and Independence Avenue. 14th Street and Constitution-Washington— slug line or destination near the intersection of 14th Street and Constitution Avenue, near the Washington Monument. 14th Street and New York-Washington— slug line or destination near the intersection of 14th Street and New York Avenue. Bob’s or Springfield Plaza-Springfield— slug line or destination near the intersection of Old Keene Mill Road and Bland Street. Body Snatching — the tabooed practice of drivers picking up slugs as they are walking to the slug line. This violates the "first come - first served" principle for the other slugs as well as the other drivers waiting in line. Caller— the first person in line whose responsibility it is to call out the destination of the car back to the other slugs in line. The caller’s responsibility passes from slug to slug as the line moves forward. Cardinal or Cardinal Forest-Springfield —slug line or destination near the intersection of Old Keene Mill Road and Rolling Road, across the street from Cardinal Forest Shopping Center. Commerce Building (14th & D Street )-Washington— slug line or destination near the intersection of 14th and D Street on the eastern side of the Commerce Building. Also called "14th and D Street." Crystal City-Arlington— destination only in the Crystal City area generally along the north side of 18th Street between Clark Place and Jefferson Davis Highway. Daventry-Springfield— slug line or destination near the intersection of Old Keene Mill Road and Hunter Village Drive. Fire Station-Montclair— slug line or destination near the intersection of Waterway Drive and Spring Branch Boulevard. Head Slug — same as a Caller. Horner Road-Woodbridge — slug line or destination in the commuter lot near the intersection of Prince William Parkway and Horner Road, just west of I95. Huntsman and Sydenstricker-Springfield — slug line or destination near the intersection of Huntsman Boulevard and Sydenstricker Road. L’Enfant or 7th & D - Washington— slug line or destination near the intersection of 7th & D Street SW, across from the L’Enfant Metro Station. Mobil Station-Springfield—slug line or destination in a residential area near the intersection of Gambrill Road (Hwy. 640) and Fairfax County Parkway (Hwy. 7100). Northgate-Montclair—slug line or destination near the intersection of Waterway Drive and Northgate. Old Hechinger’s-Woodbridge—slug line or destination in the commuter lot near the intersection of Old Bridge Road and Gordon Boulevard (State Route 123). Pentagon—slug line or destination near the southeast side of the Pentagon and near the intersection of Fern Street in the South Parking Area. Potomac Mills—slug line or destination near the intersection of Potomac Mills Loop and Telegraph Road in the Potomac Mills Shopping Center Rolling Valley - Springfield—slug line or destination near the intersection of Old Keene Mill Road and Shiplett Boulevard, in the Rolling Valley commuter lot. Rossyln-Arlington—slug line or destination near the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and Moore Street across from the Rosslyn Metro Station. Scraper— a vehicle or driver who picks up slugs. (It should be noted that this term appeared in only one source document and is unknown to most slugs.) Springfield Plaza—see Bob’s. Stafford—slug line or destination in the commuter lot off Stafford Boulevard. Sydenstriker & Huntsman-Springfield—slug line or destination in a residential district near the intersection of Huntsman Boulevard and Sydenstricker Road. Tackett’s or Tackett’s Mill-Lake Ridge—slug line or destination near the intersection of Minnieville Road and Old Bridge Road in the Tackett’s Mill Shopping Center. Will Call—the driver’s option to pick a particular slug not at the front of the line. This situation usually happens when a driver sees a friend in line and simply calls for that individual.
