White BMW 735 (I think), VA license starting with XCA, picked up in 610 lot (by Lowe's) at 6:10 this morning, black female (no lady) with slight accent. Watch out for this driver unless you want to walk through Crystal City.
I won't discuss her scary driving. When we got to CC this morning the slug in back asked to be dropped off at Army Navy Drive. I then informed the driver that I worked at 15th and Crystal Drive but that dropping me off at the Metro was fine depending on how far she had to go. I often do this when I am the last slug in the car because some drivers don't have to go all the way to 23rd and looping back from 15th St works better for them as well. The driver said she goes to 23rd. Anyway, the driver turned onto 12th St and then onto Clark St which is a common way to get to the Metro from 15th. However, instead of veering left to make the loop to 15th, she veered right and went up the Clark St ramp. Again, no reason to worry yet because some drivers will go that way and then cut over on 18th and let you out at the Metro entrance at 18th and Bell.
This is where it got interesting. She continued on to 23rd and turned toward Crystal Drive. I thought maybe she just got confused as to where to turn for the Metro and was going to loop back, but half way down the block she turned into the cutover for a U-turn and said "I guess you can walk from here." I asked if she was going to loop back to the Metro and she said "You said Crystal Drive and that is over there." I reminded her I had said 15th and Crystal or the Metro and she said "if you had said Metro I would have stopped there." Figuring she may have not understood me and that it was time to cut my losses I told her I would hoof it from there but she said she would take me back to the Metro. She took off down 23rd and seemed perturbed when I pointed out that she was about to turn onto Clark which was one way (toward us). She turned onto Jeff Davis (Rt 1) and went a couple blocks and tried to turn where I pointed out it was marked "No Turns" (would have ended up in an apartment complex). She then went to the next street (20th) and this time I kept quiet about the "No Turn on Red" sign where she turned and then immediately turned again onto Clark St saying I could walk from there, this was after all a courtesy ride - I wasn't paying for it. I politely told her I had said 15th and Crystal Drive or Metro and she said this is a courtesy ride and you don't get to chose. I got out after saying "Ma'am, the courtesy goes both ways." |
