I know its the driver's prerogative - but its freaking summer outside - for the 3rd time in a week I spent a lovely car ride with no AC on inside - if you're either too cheap to turn it on or don't want to turn it on, I think you should let people know before they get in the car - today was a nice sauna in and I had to peel my rear end off the seat when we got to l'enfant plaza
Thank you for bringing this up. It really is a problem. I have to walk about 12 min in the heat to get to the slug line, and THEN wait in the line. Sometimes in a suit. It is awful getting into a car with no AC. Please drivers, it doesn't need to be a freezer, but please at least circulate some air. And of course we are thankful for the ride. But just realize sluggers have been walking and waiting in the heat and need that AC badly.
I picked up three at the Pentagon for a trip to Stafford. Close to the end of the ride a gentleman started shifting around in the back seat. It was obvious he was uncomfortable but I assumed it was the long ride (Friday at the HOT merge.) He finally said "I'm sorry but would it be possible to turn up the A/C some, it's really warm back here." Until he said that I didn't realize that I was warm as well but OK because what little A/C was coming out of the vents was hitting me directly. I apologized and reset the A/C (for some reason the automatic thermostat wasn't working.)
I don't think any driver could rightfully be angry just for the request. If they really are anti-A/C fanatics they can always just say "No" (not "get out") but there's always the chance they are just oblivious as I was. (I've never been in the back seat of my own car.) I'm much more conscientious about it now.
