I had the Steven King lookalike driver listening to a Steven King novel on tape several years ago, and King was reading a very sexually explicit part, that seemed to go on and on while we were stuck on Wash Blvd.. I was just so embarrassed. [:I](and the driver gave me the creeps, since he looked like the person reading the material[}:)])
I think in this instance the driver should have shut it off. Instead, I just vowed never to ride with him again. This was actually a lot worse than some of the sexually explicit stuff they rattle on about in the morning zoo shows. I am no prude, but there are just some things that don't need to be discussed in mixed company or in the company of relative strangers. The chance of hearing potentially embarrassing material is why I do not listen to any of the morning shows in my car when I drive. |

quote: LOL...You poor thing!! I might have been VERY tempted to push eject and casually toss the tape out the window, then smile at the driver innocently and say "What? Oh that! Oops..." [}:)] |

You can't please everyone with your selection of radio stations. Just pick your favorite stations (tape or CD) and play it as long as it is not too loud or vuglar. Basic common sense and courtesy (not to mention the rules of slugging). It is ususally a 30 minute ride home I can listen to anything that long even opera. When I drive I will listen to the Sports Junkies unless they are talking about sex, then I will change to WTOP etc. When I slug, I ususally fall a sleep and start snoring (I know that I am the subject of another thread).

Well I went to Lowes and bought my set of rubber ear plugs that I can stick deep into my ear. So now all I can hear is my breathing.
Awww peace and quiet for a cool 40 minutes. |

Being forced to listen to Stern this morning will bring my portable CD and earphones along for the rest of my slugging days.
Some of the things they were talking about on this show were no different than a play by play of a XXX pornographic film. |

One time I rode in a car that was playing some kind of funky jazz, it really lifted my spirit and put me in a good mood to go to work. It was great.
I usually don't care what radio the driver puts on as long as it's not too loud, some people like to read the newspaper or a book to relax. |

As for radio use, my only suggestion would be that you pull the speaker volume toward the front speakers before you pick up your slugs. I am about a 50/50 guy - half the time I ride, half the time I drive. I've learned from experience that even when my radio doesn't seem that loud up in my front seats, my rear speakers, (besides being right next to the rider's head), are considerably louder. I have had many expeiences where, when riding in the back seat, I was practically blown away for the entire commute. Not very enjoyable. So, drivers, think about your slugs and simply take 30 seconds to pull some of that volume distribution up to your front speakers: you'll still enjoy listening to whatever you want to hear and your precious cargo won't go deaf.
