In the next couple weeks Fairfax County will erect signs on Hooes Road and the Route 7500 offshoot stating that a residential parking permit is required to park along those streets between 7am and noon Monday through Friday.
As a result, slugging at Sydenstricker will slow significantly or stop altogether once the lot fills, which is usually about 7a.m.
The purpose of this thread is to create predictability for drivers and slugs alike by determining how many slugs and drivers will divert to Rolling Valley and how many will divert to Saratoga Park and Ride. These two lots are roughly equidistant to Sydenstricker, but each has its own disadvantages.
Rolling Valley is farther from I-95 and Fairfax County Parkway, and the drive time from Rolling Valley to the HOV entrance off Springfield-Franconia is 10-18 minutes on average at 7:30a.m according to Google maps. It has an established slug line, but its destinations are much more varied than Sydenstricker (which could be good for drivers going somewhere other than the Pentagon).
Saratoga is closer to the HOV entrance, particularly if you take Rolling Road north from the lot. The drive time from Saratoga to the HOV entrance is 5-8 minutes on average at 7:30a.m according to Google maps. However, there is no established slug line at Saratoga. Long-time residents have told me there have been a number of failed attempts to start a slug line at Saratoga over the years.
If you would be kind enough to indicate whether you are a driver or slug, how many days a week you use the slugging system, and which lot you would prefer to use we as a group can determine if Saratoga Park and Ride is now a viable morning slug location and what the impact will be to Rolling Valley after 7a.m. This will create predictability for drivers and slugs once the signs are erected in a couple weeks.
