My significant other and I both park at the Horner Road Lot. Today, he parked his SUV there around 0645. When he returned at 1745, he started his vehicle and it made a horribly loud noise. He looked underneath and found that not only one, but BOTH of his catalytic converters were cut off and stolen. SERIOUSLY![:(!] I went to pick him up and I couldn't believe what I saw. We feel so violated! How does one protect themselves from this type of crime and in broad daylight?? Has this happened to anyone else?

Okay, I didn't think to "search" the boards as I did this morning. Apparently this isn't a new topic. [:(!] Calling the police to report this today. Hopefully his insurance will cover it.

You would think with the catalytic converter problem all around our area in commuter lots that the police would stake out the lots (undercover of course). Instead, everytime there is a report of a stolen converter, I see them in the afternoon looking under high clearance suvs and trucks to see if there are any more missing.

What was the make and model of the suv? This has happened to my Toyota 4 runner in March and since then I have not parked at the Horner Lot. I reported the incident to the police right away but I did not get much of a response. Since then, I have noticed the vandals have been rotating between different commuter lots targeting certain model catalytic converters (234, Bristow, etc.). My guess is that Toyota converters have more precious metals in them so they are more valuable for resale by the thiefs.
