Okay - so I'm new to the world o' slugs, and slowly but surely I'm learning all the minutia. I've gone through the forums and read the rules on what I am supposed to do and not do - however I think there needs to be just ONE MORE RULE added to the list of rules...and this rule is for drivers. What's that, you ask?

Well, I am aware that these are tough times and not everyone can afford a new this or late model that....and this rule is not singling out just the older model cars....IF YOU HAVE A TWO DOOR VEHICLE, MAKE SURE YOUR VEHICLE'S BACKSEAT IS EASILY ACCESIBLE OR DON'T BOTHER PICKING UP SLUGS!! I wear a suit and tie to work every day, and the last thing I want to do is have to slither and squirm my way into a the backseat of a two door anything and wrinkle my suit in the process. That is all. Thank you. [:D]

** you're more than welcome to chime in on this!

Please remember that you can always pass on any ride offered to you in a slug line. The next person in the line may not mind getting into the back seat of a 2-door car. And the next car may be a 4-door with easy entrance and exit to help avoid suit wrinkling.

Ain't sluggin'a wonderful thing?

what a condescending post. Well "Mr-I-wear-a-suit-and-tie-so-please-have-the-proper-car-for-me-to-get-into", you are well within your rights to pass up on a car for whatever reason, including you don't want your designer suits wrinkly. Small cars can be cramped, but your entire tone, ironically, displays both entitlement and elitism. Get over yourself.

Simple solution is to stop wearing suits to work.

Jeans and a T-shirt is much more practical and comfortable solution...

I don't ride in cramped back seats due to arthritic knees. When a two door comes up, I politely step back and let the next person in line take it if they want. No problem.

To the OP: Don't you take your jacket off to ride in a car anyway? I no longer wear a suit most days, but any time I do wear one, or if I wear a blue blazer instead, I always take it off and fold it over and put it on the back seat. If I were the slug rider, I'd take it off, fold it over, and carry it (setting it on the seat next to me if the seat were empty). The only time I wear a jacket/blazer when in a car is if I'm in a taxi or if it's wintertime and I have on an overcoat over the suit, but even that's rare for me because I prefer to use my seat heater for warmth when driving.

I just don't follow your concern about wrinkling your suit when the problem is so easy to avoid.

But with that said, if you want to wear your jacket, the other people are right in suggesting that you just pass on the ride if it's a two-door car. Don't feel that you need to give an excuse, either. You don't.

I hear you, MrV! When I bought my current vehicle a couple of years ago one of the "must have" features was 4 doors with easy access and plenty of room in the back, because I was going to be using it for carpooling and picking up slugs when necessary. I even sat back there myselfto check it out. [:)]

didnt whine about anything peeellee.....just told CJ that it wasnt fair for her to be upset at the fact that I like to keep the suit I wear to work as sharp and pressed as possible and that it's not my fault she wears an IHOP uniform to work and could care less how wrinkled it got on the way to work. Mr V,
Well I don't work at IHOP, I work in DC and often wear business suits (which for women such as myself generally involves a skirt and heels) to work when I brief people and business casual when I don't. I both drive and slug equally. My issue with your post is that there are plenty of people who don't mind riding in a two-door vehicle and by you suggesting that two-door vehicles should be banned or against the rules, implies that only YOU know what's best or that only your needs count. If you don't want to ride in a two-door vehicle simply say shake your head and offer the car to the next in line. I have often done that when I slug and don't think the car is safe or whatever.

I do get tired of hearing people gripe about the size of the cars, the radio station, the hot, the cold, the seats, etc. for what is essentially a free and convenient ride with no liability to themselves.

For the record I drive either a four-door jeep cherokee or a 4-door Mercury Montego (both bought with slugs in mind) and I drive to and from 234 to the Pentagon. Please pass on my cars if you see them.

Thanks![:D]

Quoted for emphasis.

I've ridden in cars that have a baby seat in the back with cheerios and fruit juice spilled all over the place.

I've ridden in cars that I could tell one of the front ball joints was about ready to let go... (Ball joints have the minor task of making sure the wheels are pointed in the right direction and stay properly attached to the car.)

I've ridden in black cars with black leather seats with NO AC.

I've ridden when someone's blasting crappy pop music (Or worse) through blown out speakers.

And yes, I've ridden in a two door vehicle with stuff on the rear seat.

I do it all without complaining and I say, "Thanks for the ride, have a good evening." when we get to Horner Rd.

Know why?

Fuel: $0
Parking: $0
Mileage put on my vehicle: 0
Time I actually had to stay alert and awake on the commute: 0

Who cares...

I'm not so sensitive that Glenn Beck on the radio is gonna warp my fragile mind.

I'm not a prissy little bitch who's gonna cry about my clothes getting dirty. I own a washing machine for this purpose...

It's a free ride. Get over it or drive your own vehicle to work.

Meh, I'm usually bored at my desk all day, so I screw around on the internet.
For perpetuating negativity, I'll plead guilty as charged. I have no problem with honesty.

I doubt it'll help MrV get over the wrinkles in his little man suit... But Like I said, I'm pretty bored at the moment, so I'll say what I feel like saying.

You like that, do ya?

It was kinda difficult, as I had originally typed "widdle man suit" pronouncing it like Elmer Fudd, kinda like you'd say to a toddler, but I don't think it sounds right, reading it as text...

The last "l" in little wouldn't look or sound right as a "w"...

I'm gonna have to set Google to translate every web page I look at for a day into Elmer Fudd speak so that I can see how words are formed.

Daunting research?
No
Taunting research.
