This will be my first time slugging and needless to say, I'm scared. I am starting a job in Rosslyn (Wilson Blvd). I currently live in Stafford. I don't want to screw anything up, and I definitely don't want to be left stranded in an unknown location. I read the rules and gen. info but does anyone have any additional advice in terms of what time to arrive at the lot? How long is the average commute time? How likely am I to get a ride? I would ideally like to get to work between 8:00am - 8:30am. In the evenings, I will typically get off work around 5/5:30pm. My hours are slightly flexible.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Welcome to the wild world of slugging! Seriously, you have nothing to be scared of... You should allow at least an hour for your commute, from arriving at the line to your destination each way, until you get an idea of the flow of the lines and the commute times. If memory serves, Rosslyn has an active line to/from Stafford, so getting rides in each direction should not be a problem. Look on this site for a map of the slug lines at each destination and for answers to many other questions you may have.
Another option, if the line is moving slowly in either direction, is the Pentagon where you will find many more drivers going to/from Stafford. A short Metro to Rosslyn that may help to get you on the road sooner...
Happy slugging!

Both Stafford and Rosslyn have very active lines so there is little chance that you will ever go without a ride. The Pentagon is a good fall-back plan. If your work hours are truly flexible I would try to shy them over to be a little earlier. I don't think you will get a parking space in the Mine Rd lot if you arrive there at 7:00 AM and you are better off in the afternoon getting to the line a bit earlier than you propose. If you have to work until 5:30 you might want to consider Metro to the Pentagon rather than the Rosslyn line.
Welcome to slugging!
