I was at the 630 lot at 6:25 am till 6:55 am and no one showed. There was 4 of us there and some folks where there at 6:15 am. I just so happen to see a neighbor and a co worker and they gave me a ride. That lot was mostly filled with van and car poolers. We need drivers in the morning. I feel if we get drivers to pick us up alot more slugs will show up there!

Ways to Access 630 lot – it is more accessible than 610!

630 or Courthouse Road is more accessible than most people think! Most may think that the best way to get there is from I-95 or Route 1. Below list the many ways you can get to 630 (and all of them link to 610!).

1) Eustace Road (Autumn Ridge and other surrounding developments). Travel down Eustace Road heading away from 610. Eustace Road ends at Embry Mill Road, take a right. Embry Mill Road ends at 628 or Winding Creek Road, take left. Pass a middle school on the left and Winding Creek ends at 630 or Courthouse Road, take a left. Within two minutes the 630 commuter lot is on your right! (Total drive time 5-10 mins)
2) Parkway Blvd (Parkridge development). Take Parkway Blvd to the end. At the T-intersection make a left. From this point you have two options: 1- You can continue on this road till it ends, making a left onto 630; or 2- take a left onto 628 (Winding Creek Road) to making a left onto 630 (Courthouse Road). Another slug told me this takes him three minutes to get the 630 commuter lot!
3) 648 or Shelton Shop Road (past Parkridge, but before the Food Lion). 648 has two options: 1- Take 648 (Shelton Shop Rd) and turn left onto 628 (Winding Creek). Make a left onto 630 (Courthouse Road); or 2- Take 648 and turn left onto 630, Courthouse Road. (Total drive time 5-10 mins)
4) If you really hate 610, from Mine Road heading south from 610, turn right onto Northampton Blvd. Northampton Blvd runs into Eustace. Take a left onto Eustace and follow the directions listed under item 1.
5) Route 1heading south from 610, take a right onto 630 (by the Courthouse). Pass the McDonalds, pass the Amoco, pass I-95. After you pass I-95, the 630 commuter lot is on your left. So easy! No traffic lights or traffic! Total driving time: 1-2 minutes.
6) Heading South on I-95, take exit 140 (less than 3 miles south of exit 143b,610 – going 65/70mph takes only 2 mins). Take a right onto 630 (Courthouse Road) – NO LIGHTS OR TRAFFIC. The Commuter lot is on your left. (Total driving time: from the Pentagon 30-40 mins/ Total driving time departing the lot (from your parking space): 0 mins)

For all of the directions above you are avoiding traffic, lights, and the mess at 610. Try 630, you just may like it.

Hi guys!! Thanks for giving Route 630 a try. I am sorry it didn't work out that well for some of you. You are absolutely right, we have a lot of riders who want to slug from there but we are short on drivers. If anyone out there would like to hand out flyers to the drivers, please email me at tisa.shillingburg@hqda.army.mil. Thanks also to Matrix for giving some more routes to get to Route 630, that was really helpful. Please don't give up, just keep being persistent.
I also suggest standing near the front of the lot so that the drivers passing by can see you there.

I will be driving from the 630 lot tomorrow. I usually arrive there at 7am and I know another driver will be there as well. Are any riders planning to be there and what time?

We need drivers earlier than that also. Again this AM, there was a line of slugs at the Rt 630 Comutter Lot bus stop BEFORE 6:30AM. I was there at 6:15AM, and the first driver didn't arrive until about 6:45AM. (Which was actually at least 15 minutes earlier than yesterday).

shelbybrynn - what times do you get there? Are you still waiting out by the road?

Hi Arbo!! I am still slugging from Route 630 but our group gets there around 8:00 a.m. We kind of have a slug buddies thing going on so we try to coordinate with each other what time we'll be there so we don't have to go it alone. I think that is the way to go at least in the beginning of a new slug line. We even have two drivers that are in our slug buddy group that call us and keep us informed. So far it has been really great and I have met some really nice people that way We still wait by the road when our regular drivers aren't there. I figure there are alot of people that come down Route 630, get on the interstate and pick-up slugs at 610. If they see us out there, they'll stop for us. We have a big neon poster board sign that helps too. Thanks for being patient and sticking with us, I know it will pay off in the long run.

Part of the problem may be that riders insist on going to their drop and won't walk a block or two. I'm not going to try 630 and sit there because a slug won't walk 2 blocks.

Curtis, what are you talking about walking two blocks? Are you referring to the Route 610 slug line at Mine Road? You do not have to walk very far at all at the Route 630 lot.

I think he/she might mean once they get to the destination and some want front door service or something. That was the way I interpretted it.

So far, I think everyone from 630 slugs to the Pentagon. He must be confusing 630 to Mine Road?!?

Yeah, that's what I thought at first but there was no earlier conversation about door-to-door service so I was confused by his statement. I do think that in light of the recent attacks that door-to-door service is not such a bad idea though. We should all be looking out for one another. Especially since our commuter lots are usually right off the interstate and us slugs are particularly at risk due to the fact that we sit out in the open and wait. Hopefully they will catch this nut and fast!!

I think you're right Matrix. He is talking about dropping people off in the morning at their destinations. I wasn't sure what in the heck he was talking about since there was no discussion about that in this forum. I haven't heard from any people going anywhere but the Pentagon so I am still not sure what he is referring to.

He is talking about picking up slugs from the 610 DC line. It has happened to me also. When announcing a DC location with MANY people in line, it is sometimes amazing that NOONE will step forward. When asked where they are going, at times the destination they are looking for is only 2-4 blocks from the advertised location. And, taking the metro is out of the question. This can be a tad frustrating for a driver.
