This morning, channel 7 had an annoucement at the bottom of the screen there was a meeting on the proposed HOT lanes at the McLean Community Center tonight. I checked VDOT's web page but it is not listed under meetings. Anyone know anything about this?

Dranesville District to Host Hot Lanes Public Information Meeting
Dranesville District Supervisor John Foust will host a public information meeting on the proposed construction of High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes on Tuesday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. at the McLean Community Center, 1234 Ingleside Ave., McLean.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), in partnership with two private companies, Fluor and Transurban, is proposing to construct two HOT lanes in each direction along a 14-mile stretch of the Capital Beltway (I-495) between Springfield and Old Dominion Drive. HOT lanes are privately owned toll roads that utilize the concept of “dynamic tolling.” Dynamic tolling bases the price to ride in a HOT lane on how many cars are currently on the road. Buses and carpools are toll-free in the HOT lanes and tolls will only be charged to drivers choosing to utilize the new HOT lanes. All currently existing lanes of the Beltway will remain free of charge and available to all motorists.

The Tysons Corner area would provide access points to connect to the HOT lanes. Alterations to existing interchanges and infrastructure such as bridges, overpasses and sound barriers in the locale are also part of this project.

At the March 4 meeting, representatives from VDOT and the Fluor and Transurban companies will make a presentation and answers questions from residents.

For more information, contact Cheryl Patten at the Dranesville District Supervisor’s Office at 703-356-0551, TTY 711.
