Hey all,
I'm new to slugging and will be living in Stafford and commuting to the Pentagon. I have some general inquiries. Number 1 I suppose is how long the commute will generally take from either the 610 or Mine Road, and will I be dropped off pretty close to the Pentagon? If I am getting to the lot between 615-630, will I have any issues in getting picked up? I've heard this from numerous sources, but is slugging from stafford cheaper and faster than taking the VRE? Finally, would I have issues getting a ride home and how long are drivers picking slugs up? Thanks in advance. MrO |

For 610
1) Commute time ~45mins, not including waiting for a ride 2) You will be dropped off at the Pentagon drop off zone 3) You should be OK getting there at 0615-0630 (but I'd try to get there sooner than later). The line can be long but moves quickly 4) Slugging costs $0 - you do the math. Although I would think about using VRE on the Friday before holidays and foul weather days. 5) Should not have any trouble getting picked up but pay attention to the time. Don't get out there too late. Life should be easier once the extended lanes open. KeithO |

I think the Mine Road Penatgon line will be better for you. I used to take the bus from the north 610 lot at about 6:20 and the slug line was very long; the majority of those people were for the Pentagon. I have to be to my office by 7, I am in the downtown line by 5:30 and I normally get a ride between 5:50-5:55 - at that time the Pentagon line is moving much faster most days. I have been late a few times due to traffic, so it's good to allow extra time. Even if you get a transit subsidy you're still saving about $100 or more a month by slugging. Those of us who don't receive that - sulgging is the only option. I do agree that on certain days - Friday before Memorial Day, Labor Day, around July 4th, the day before Thanksgiving - look for alternatives or have a snack before you get in line because 95 S is awful.
