I am headed to Front Royal, VA on 7/29 PM (5:00pm) and want to take I-66 from downtown DC. I am hoping to utilize the HOV lanes as much as possible (i.e. the longer I can stay in HOV, the better).
Being familiar but not well versed in slugging, can anyone assist with how I might accomplish this. Apologies for the short notice. E-mails and any/all assistance is much appreciated! |

I can't offer much encouragement. There are no sluglines going out 66, unless Rosslyn to Herndon is established. Also, the HOV lane ends at Manassas, 66 is very slow going through Manassas and Gainesville that time of day. I live in Manassas, and carpool in on 66, but going home we take 95. My suggest is to take 95 HOV lanes by picking up slugs at the Pentegon, or your closest PM slug line that goes to Horner Road or Potomac Mills (check website.) Then take Prince William Parkway to the 234 bypass, to 66 at Gainesville. Traffic will still be slow when you first get on 66.

Much appreciated advice. Thanks! I may give that a shot. I pretty much had counted on there not being an easy way to travel out I-66. [xx(] |
