So far, I've contacted both major candidates for governor, one candidate for Lt governor, and both candidates in my district for delegate. They are the only candidates that I have contacted. I posed the question "what is your position on the hybrid exemption" - ALL responded that they support it. Supporting documentation sent to RobertLangDirect.
I did not ask them why they support the exemption, but with such broad support, there must be plenty of reasons, including common sense. Some did say that the exemption needed to be reevaluated periodically to see if it still made sense. |

I would be concerned about what they mean by "support it". They are politicos after all and prone to tell folks what they want to hear in general terms so you can't pin them down on what they specifically mean.
Then again, what they say doesn't make a lot of difference since nobody is going to argue with these vehicles being promoted in the general populace because they do get better gas mileage than the "average" vehicle on the road these days. Not that they're a better option. In my opinion, there are better alternatives that address more of the problems we face and should be given more attention by serious activists for change. If we're going to "retool" the auto industry, why not do it to maximize the greater good and reduce the downside. Hybrid gas/elec don't do that. True alternative fuel vehicles do that. Were that it were true for FFVs burning ethanol or high mpg diesels burning biodiesel were allowed HOV privileges plus the other tax breaks associated, then one could seriously consider supporting HOV exemption as an INTRODUCTORY means to addressing the challenges we face in our region. stepping down off that soapbox. NoSb SOV because you can, HOV because you care! |

I'm glad you contacted them to show your support. I will do the same now explaining why it needs to be repealed.

quote: I didn't contact them to show my support. I merely asked them for their position. Lot's of logical reasons for them to have formed that position, but not many for them to have a different one. Go for it. That's why we have the political process. |
