Did you see in today's Post that the Transportation Board in their 6 year plan approved 900 million for the Dulles Metro extension and 85 mill for an HOV/HOT ramp at Springfield? Nothing to add lanes to 95/395, including the additional southbound lane before the Occoquan that has been discussed. The HOT ramp was probably part of a back room deal to help out the HOT developers.

This goes to the heart of what I have been talking about, in that the 95 corridor was "sold" to the HOT developers years ago. The Transp. Board decided that this was the way they could fund the Metro extension. We were sold out.

The ramp is to connect from the existing HOV lanes to the new toll lanes on 495 between Springfield and Tysons, right?

It was inevitable when the ink dried on Fluor's contract with VDOT to do the Capital Beltway toll lanes. Inevitable.

Maybe now that Connaughton has lost, we can talk to him about toll roads. Even though he lost, he has added to his stature in the region as an up-and-comer: the other pols will accord him a listen.

Not to worry, Dulles METRO and Springfield HOT ramp will be funded by Federal funds. People in Iowa and the rest of the United States will be more than happy to fund northern Virginia transportation. If for no other reason than to make sure all those people stay in northern Virginia. [8D][}:)][8D]

Yes, Dick: very funny. I'll be happy to stay in Bikinibridge: where hurricanes are but a rumor, tornadoes seldom seen, earthquakes unheard of, wildfires unknown, and mudslides a thing of the ancient past. Nice spot, Virginia. Nothing against Iowa, mind you....

But really, what's wrong with Iowans and others paying for Northern Virginia's roads? What, they won't be able to use them if they come to DC?

Complaining about the distribution of federal funds is ignorant. As long as any taxpayer has access to the roads, then they are a legitimate use of our dollars.

Why shouldn't the Ohioans pay for our roads? We underwrite subsidies to farmers paid not to grow things, don't we? It's a federal system, last I heard.
