Reminder to slugs standing in line - tell other slugs in line the destination of the cars that are waiting.
Too often, people get in the slug line and the people already in line don't relay the destination of the lined up cars. Pay attention and pass the word. If you can't or don't want to - don't participate in the system. Go away. This is a symbiotic thing, a joint effort to benefit all, a community. If you don't want "to play" - ride the bus, walk, whatever... Callers - tell drivers if there are already cars waiting to go to the same destination. Some drivers are flexible and will go somewhere else. Bottom line - C-O-M-M-U-N-I-C-A-T-E. |

Agreed! The first slugs in line should walk down the row of waiting cars and SHOUT out the destinations and # of riders. Those slugs later in line should update new arrivals on the destinations of waiting cars.
And as many slug participants do not read this forum, it is up to us to communicate the etiquette to those who do not know it by demonstrating it daily and coaching those who need it in the lines. |

Coaching - good word. Though it does get tiresome and you get some weird looks when you provide advice.

I agree that there is occasionally a lack of communication on where the cars are going. I am not sure what the problem is there. Sometimes, I ask the non-callers in line and they don't even know where the cars in line are going. I can only attribute that to a caller who does not loudly announce the location. Also, it probably would not hurt if the caller repeats the locations of the vehicles in line when no other car is coming up, and he or she notices that other people have joined the line since the first announcement.

Addendum for riders - if there are multiple cars going to the same destination, don't pile into the first car if it's already got 3 people in it.
Get into the next car and help move the process along... |

The slugs are definitely getting lazy/untrained. In Rosslyn, you frequently will find a long line of cars only to come around the corner and see a long line of slugs(PM and Tackett's) just standing there next to the cars(Horner). Instead of taking a few steps to get in a car, they are waiting for more Horner slugs to show up so their ride can come to the front of the line.
In the past, it was nothing like this. You would always see slugs walking back to find a ride. Please help train the slugs. :) |
