Hi, I am new to slugging. I just moved to the Fredericksburg area and I normally take the VRE. I have recently had to stay in DC after the trains stop running, so I drove in and picked up some slugs in order to get into town easier. I took them into downtown (14th and G) which is a known destination for the Rte 17 slugs. I would much rather go to the Springfield Metro (on the blue line) or the Huntington Metro (on the yellow line), but I am not sure if it's okay to go to those destinations, or if any slugs waiting for a pickup would be interested it going there and metro-ing to your ultimate destination. Any thoughts or advice from you veterans out there? Anyone who is a regular Route 17 slug have any interest?
thanks! |

The only way you can go to those instead is to ask your riders if they agree to. Otherwise, post a sign on your window saying you are going to Springfield or Huntington Metro.

jess,
If you take your slugs there without them knowing it, you probably will become the subject of a long string of critical postings on this website, put on the "do not ride with" list, and God knows what else.[B)] Agree with dp -- please don't take slugs to the F-S or H'ton Metro stations unless you get confirmation from each slug that's exactly where they want to go. I never ever considered taking a slug to the metro stations without their permission. I certainly didn't mean to convey that in my earlier post.
I was just inquiring as to how kosher or not kosher it is to go to uncommon stops - i.e. stops that aren't listed as "destinations" on this website. And mostly will any slugs be willing to go with me to those metro stops? |

It ain't .... so, don't .... unless you have full agreement from the slugs you pick up.[;)]
Exact drop-off points should be clearly understood, and non-standard ones (whatever that really is) should be agreed upon, by all involved.[:)] |

Bottom line is, you won't know unless you ask. Some slugs are flexible so you might get lucky in where you can drop off. If no one goes to the destination you initially suggest, then you're committed to dropping them at the "agreed to" destination.
When I drive, I usually call out 18th & G. While cruising up 18th though, I inform slugs that I make a left on G and then go to 19th & E. That way they have the option of getting closer to where they really need to go. |
